A
world of lists
100
most beautiful people. Sexiest man alive. Best and worse
dressed. A-list. On and on, our society more and more becomes
one where the physical, not the spiritual, is applauded
for its perfection. More and more we envy and worship those
who have been appointed ambassador to perfection by the
media. And sadly people for the most part anxiously await
the news, so they can agree or disagree.
While
accomplishments and talent alone are not enough these days
to base one persons merit, we have become a society of idol
worshippers, no better than some prehistoric version of
ourselves. This fawning drooling adoration for Hollywood's
elite is shameless.
The
new face replaces the old face and we live in an era where
the average male awaits his perfect princess, because the
television tells him it is his right as a male. Women are
going under the knife at a more alarming rate then ever,
to hang onto the eternal fountain of youth, to be loved
and admired for their physical. The inner body is lying
in waste and starving to be fed, to be beautified. Women
accounted for 90% of all cosmetic surgery in 2004. So my
question is, why do we buy into this? Is attracting the
opposite sex, who has become increasingly desensitized and
shallow as to what beauty is, the goal? Of course it is.
Perhaps when one is born and raised in a small town they
are less affected. Take Toronto. Why would a man date a
cool interesting average looking woman when there is ALWAYS
going to be something better around the corner.
It
is great to care about how you look. To want to keep your
body healthy. I say lets start exercising our inner body
before it is too late, and we are completely a culture of
shallow, petty, botoxed, chemical peel, fake boob,
put on airs, look I have more than you so I am better than
you, uncaring, self absorbed, totally lacking in compassion
race of people. And by this I dont mean run off to
Lululemon, buy an overpriced trendy yoga outfit and join
a ridiculously overpriced studio where again, only the elite
can afford to go.
