Are we fighting a losing battle?
I was watching a show about sex in the wild life, matter of fact it was a marathon and I found myself appalled and fascinated by hours and hours of animal rites, passages and oddities. From cross dressing to amorphadites, the wild kingdom has it all. But what I found fascinating in particular about Chimps, of which we share a 99% DNA commonality. Chimpanzees and other ape species that seem to have changed little in 10 or even 15 million years can be viewed as "time machines," taking us back to the origins of behavior that we now consider uniquely human. It got me thinking that perhaps men are really just 100% genetically predisposed to be a certain way, and trying to understand or even change that is going to cause nothing but confusion at their end and disappointment in the female camp. How much has the male species really evolved?
Like human males the male chimps for the most part live their lives seeking to be dominant and trying to have sex. Like Gangsters in some old movie, male chimps will organize raiding parties to seek out isolated members of other chimpanzee bands and then move in for the kill. In ways that eerily suggest human behavior, life for male chimpanzees is a continual jockeying for status and power. The dominant males, when in their teenage years often run in packs, picking on other males, raping and even murdering. The energy and rage involved in this pursuit is quite something to behold, and it is what is keeping the world from evolving to one where we all live equal, a world of intellect and peace. They systematically rape and harass the females for sex. Chimp females almost seem like abused females in a lot of ways. Bullied and berated. One thing we have in common is that even chimps, while promiscuous, do not have sex with immediate family members. Although it is documented that male chimps will often try and have sex with their sisters when the need to mate is upon them, which is often. Which again reminds me of the male of our species. While I am not saying all men are rapist nor have incestuous thoughts, it is still safe to say that the percentage of males that commit these types of crimes is very high indeed compared to the number of females raping and harassing males.
One need only look at the world to see that man rules it in a primal animalistic way, degrading and mistreating not only its females but the earth and Mother Nature herself. Such male aggression has structured the lives of humans as well as chimpanzees for thousands of generations. Every human society has been patriarchal, with men retaining most of the dominant spots in the hierarchy and using their power to control women and annihilate their enemies. There is really no hope for our planet while men rule. There is really no hope for mankind to thrive while being subjected to rule by a species who thinks about sex every 52 seconds like their chimp counterparts.
To conclude, while I watched this fascinating wild sex documentary, the male chimp that had chased the female up a tree and could not get her down with all the chest thumping, bravado he could muster, he finally just showed her his erect penis, I thought, how is this any different than Lavalife?
