Energy of the City

June, 2006

Horns honking and sirens blaring, oh the life of living in the city! Don’t get me wrong, I love living in the city and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. The energy is so alive and bustling, opportunities and possibilities are endless. Yet, I find myself getting caught up in the fast paced life unawares. Here I am, off to work in the morning along with thousands of others making their way through crowds as fast as they can. Now, not everyone can be late for work, so why is it that people rush all the time? There goes any sense of kindness or courtesy, especially seen by those shoving people out of the way like they don’t even exist! It’s like our fellow mankind become a sea of parasites that we need to rid ourselves during rush hour. I am absolutely guilty of this daily routine because it’s so important for me to be where I need to go, even though I am fifteen minutes early!

Every once in a while though, I will follow the cliché of stopping to smell the roses. This may sound insane, but I passed by a flower shop and took a nice big whiff and after that, I felt really good. I don’t know if it was necessarily the flower itself or maybe the fact that I just took a moment to breathe. Even taking a quick look at the sky might take that little bit of edge off sometimes. I don’t know if any of this really makes a difference, but I guess if I can help slow even one person down to live in the moment, then I’ve accomplished something.

Rayna's Bio

"Named after an android from the original Star Trek series, Rayna is anything but robotic, and her music is a candid reflection of this. Fueled by life experience, her powerful, introspective lyrics speak of pride, love, change and loss and keep her humanoid audiences enthralled and connected. Fluid, stirring melodies and a deep vocal range make for a sound that is passionate and strong, yet distinctly feminine."
