Yes, I mean that literally! Sit down and get comfortable as
I am about to tell you my tale of woe. By the way, I live
in a high-rise apartment building.
This is how my week has been. First, last Wednesday and Thursday,
the power went out. SEVERAL TIMES!!! Thursday night, a fire
alarm went on for an hour. Friday at noon (Christmas
eve, day). There was a fire in the garbage shoot. Gee! could
a pissed off tenant have done that?
Hmmm?! Yes, that was sarcasm! Oh, it doesn't end there, since
last Wednesday, no heat. The heat was restored last night
and now it is too hot in the apartment! At least we have hot
water. (more sarcasm)
Big deal you say! One week of suffering, just a small price
to pay. But wait. You don't know the whole story. I have lived
in this building for 6 years. The first 4.5 year were ok.
Not great, but ok. Fast forward to the last year and a half.
Let me list some of the problems:
Water leaking down wall and ceiling of bathroom, causing part
of the ceiling to almost cave in. (this has been a problem
since we moved in) Flood. Another pissed off tenant
set a fire hose off a few floors above us. Our apartment was
totally flooded. Floors ruined. Thank goodness for apartment
insurance. I should also mention that after several requests
the floor was never fixed. Along as management got their insurance
money, who cares about the tenants. Due to the flood we were
without heat, hot water and hydro for 4 days. This was early
spring and it was very cold outside. I figure I have matches,
candles and if necessary wooden furniture that makes great
kindling.
By the way, I was pondering a bonfire over the last couple
of days. They (property management) are lucky they got
the heat back on., Everyone is panicking about
Y2K, huh! If there is no power in our building midnight Dec
31, I am pretty sure it will NOT be Y2K related.
-fire
alarms constantly going off
-Elevators that never work. I do recall the elevators where
suppose to be upgraded. Highly doubtful.
-November of this year we went about 3 weeks without hot water.
-Every once in a while we would get a sad excuse for hot water.
that of course would only last for a few minutes. Management
continually lied to the tenants, saying it was only specific
units that had the problem. Total bullshit!! It finally took
a tenant calling the city, to get the hot water fixed.
My all time favorite. Property management tried to evict us.
According to them we did not pay our rent. Trust me, we paid
rent. As we do every month (on time I would like
to note). Apparently it
turned out to be a clerical error on their part. clerical
error my
ass!!! As you might imagine I was furious. How dare they serve
me an eviction notice. What happened to a warning notice.
(they argued with me that the eviction notice was not and
eviction notice, but, a warning notice. funny, the main title
of the notice said Notice of termination of residence. to
me, that is an eviction notice) this list could go on forever.
Trust me, but, I will quit for now. However, I
must bitch about the one thing that is pissing me off the
most. The Property management is increasing our
rent. Yes, I did say increasing. You see, they have done all
of these Cosmetic upgrades to the building. You know, make
it pretty. I guess they never heard the old saying, "it is
not what is on the outside, but what is in the inside." Guess
not.
Can you Tell I hate living in this building. The only benefit,
is our neighbors are decent. But, that is not enough to keep
me here. We are looking for another place to live.
Pissed of tenants, equal tenants association. Hopefully we
will get many of our problems resolved. Of course, I will
have probably have moved out by
then.
Bytch, bytch, bytch I say!!!
