Queridos

Ah my Queridos... these are words of love, words of passion, words that Gomez would say to his lovely wife every time he sees her. Querido is a word that shows how he truly feels for his beloved.

The Gomez I speak of is Gomez Addams and his beloved is Morticia. Though characters of fictional 1960s sitcom television, I truly feel that they are the greatest couple of all times. Consider this. Gomez was originally engaged to marry Morticia’s older sister. Upon meeting Morticia, he fell madly in love with her and forfeited his engagement to take Morticia as his betrothed. Even after many years of marriage he is just as madly in love with her as the day he met her and would kill for his Queridos... literally, how many men would do this? In their case it wouldn’t have to be because her life was threatened, he would challenge you to a dual if her honour was in question. This is a man truly in love. His passion is unspoken and even something as simple as Morticia speaking French or giving him a look sets him off.

Morticia is so madly in love with her husband she would do anything for him. She always makes his favorite meals, would drop what she is doing for him and has the patience of a saint when it comes to dealing with his crazy notions and plans. She never has a harsh word for him and only ever has words of love. Although not a domestic goddess, she is a goddess in many other ways to Gomez.

Together they are a perfect example of how couples should treat each other. Love, respect, understanding, patience, passion, and honesty. They constantly let the other know how they are feeling, and they are not afraid to show their feelings and passion. Neither has to guess what the other is thinking. Not something many couples do for each other, whether they are just starting out in a relationship, or have been in one for many, many years. Though they encourage each other to have friends and do things away from each other, they crave each others attention and can’t wait to return to each others arms. To them there are no more important people in the world and they will never have other partners, as their vow of death till they do part is taken very seriously. The grave is the only thing that will ever separate them.

Rather than watch The Addams Family for a good laugh, next time really pay attention to how these two people treat each other and take a moment to consider their love and respect for each other. Then the next time you are starting a relationship or if you are in one right now, use what you have seen and treat your partner or potential partner with the same love, respect and passion. You will both end up happier.
