Cell phones are overrated… I use to be a strong believer!

I’m a hypocrite. Last month, I bought a cell phone. You see, back home in the valley, cell phones are unheard of. Okay, maybe that’s a little too drastic. They’re heard of, it’s just that no one has them in Eganville because you can’t get a signal.

I’ve been living in the city for years now and I only just got a cell phone about a month ago. Some may call me crazy because I have waited so long. However, I just didn’t see a need for it, until now.

Before I got a cell, my friends that did have one I found most annoying. I hated going out with them sometimes even because most of the time I would find myself sitting staring off in a daze while they took their calls. I thought it was so rude of them to leave me hanging like that.

Well, now I’m constantly on the phone, calling people and sending text messages. I can’t even believe what has happened to me…

There are a few reasons why my boyfriend and I originally decided to get our phones:

  1. We were moving out and we wanted to give our friends and family contact numbers before we left (it did help us out a lot because we didn’t get a new home phone until a week after moving in).
  2. I had job opportunities coming up and needed to have a phone.
  3. We wanted to be able to keep in close contact because of our different working schedules. And this way, when I’m working at the bar late I can call him to meet me whenever I like.

I believe these are all very good reasons to have a cellular phone. Especially, since we’re downtown more often because having safety is very important.

I’m just going to try and promise myself that I won’t be that louder cell phone talker in the restaurant shouting above and beyond everyone else in the place. I won’t take long calls when I have a friend hanging out with me. I will turn my phone off when I’m in the movie theatre or in a meeting. I won’t be on my phone when crossing the street. I won’t buy any silly little, extra gadgets that are completely useless. I won’t bring my cell if I’m planning on going out with my friends and not expecting any important calls.

And last but not least… if you call my phone and ask for Sandy… I will hang up because I’m sick and tired of getting calls for the previous cell phone number user.
