~(: April Fooled ;)~

It’s that time of year again… where most of the world tries to pull the best pranks on their family, friends and nemesis’s.

The history of the day is thought to have originated in France because, before the use of the Gregorian calendar, New Year's celebrations ended on the first of April.

In 1582, Pope Gregory changed the old Julian calendar to the new Gregorian calendar. When New Year's Day was changed to January 1st, the people who still celebrated it on April 1st were called April Fools.

According to the 21st Century Edition of Collins English Dictionary & Thesaurus, an April fool is a victim of a practical joke performed on the first of April.

Believe it or not, but my student government has been making a victim out of most of the people at Humber and has been playing the prank since the beginning of September 2004 (It’s the longest on-going April Fool’s joke I have ever witnessed).

The hoax: In the Humber Students’ Federation’s handbook, it reads, "Eminem Performs on April 1st."

The first couple of weeks of school, people were talking about the big day, not realizing what day it was on… even I was fooled. And since, students and their parents have been calling HSF headquarters to buy tickets for the show.

If publishing the performance wasn’t enough, HSF has been posting flyers around the college for the past two months. It’s hilarious!

Here are some of my favourite April Fool pranks:

*At the office-

Use a small post-it note and place it under someone’s computer mouse (covering the ball on the bottom). When they go to use the mouse, it won't do anything! Remember to write "April Fool!" on the bottom.

*At home-

Choose a bright colour of food coloring to add to the milk. Buy it in a cardboard container so nobody can see inside. Make sure you are around when they pour it on their cereal. *smile*

*At school-

Walk around the school and tell all your fellow classmates that the pub is giving away free beer. If you fool them, you’ll probably end up having to pay for a round.
