Friday the 13th Blues
I am not a person who normally gives into superstitions. If a black cat crosses my path, I don't freak out like some people tend to. Cats, to me, were always lucky, and if one happens to cross my way, the better for me. Besides, how many black cats do you think are out there? Probably scores. So, one of them passing by is probably pretty normal, and not a sign of bad luck. I am more likely to worry about that black cat than me, hoping that she won't get run over by a car.
There are other superstitions that are rather funny and outdated, but in my life, there's been one that always came true. Yeah, you guessed it from the title of my article- Friday the 13th. Most people know that Friday the 13th was deemed unlucky when the Catholic Church massacred the Templars on that day. From that point on, that day has been particularly bad, I would even say cursed, probably because of the bloodshed that occurred.
Some people, like me, watch the events of that day like hawks, don't do anything crazy or risky, and stay home if they can. Other people, like my hubby (people like him are in minority, I think), think it's all in peoples' minds and don't do anything differently. I myself belong to the first category, because believe it or not, something crappy or bad always happens to me on that day, no matter how small.
I am writing this on Friday the 13th, and I have already experienced an especially stressful day at work, with bosses being grouchy with me, when they're normally very nice. Likewise, people who are normally sweet and helpful in my workplace have suddenly forgotten what they're supposed to be doing and snarl at you, if you point out their very obvious mistakes. Everybody's confused and the whole office suddenly seems chaotic, even though on other days everything works like clockwork.
My mother wrote me an email today. She's always on time at work, never late. Well, guess what? Today she overslept. When she got to work, she realized that she forgot her cell at home, and moreover, on the way to her office she spilled her box lunch on her new dress.
Yap, my Fridays the 13th tend to be like that to some degree, and some are even worse. I am a lot happier when that unlucky day is over and we move onto the next day. And nobody is gonna tell me that these are just all coincidences, either! I know better!
So, keep these things in mind, and stay cheerful until the next Friday the 13th! Then, eat one live toad, and hopefully nothing worse will happen to you that day, as they say.
