Stupid Movies and Valentine's Day

I always have and always will hate romantic comedies and love stories. Not only do I not find anything funny or romantic about these movies, I think that most of them are a complete crapola and a total waste of time. Unfortunately, a lot of people expect me to watch these kinds of movies with them on Valentine's Day, which I despise.

Most of these romantic movies and comedies are so far from reality that it's not even funny (no pun intended). So, this article is for all those people who try to take me to the cinema on Valentine's Day to see these movies and then wonder why am I falling asleep.

True, there are comedies that I do like, but those are few and far in between. One is "Mouse Hunt", an old film about a mouse and two brothers that I thoroughly enjoy. Of course, without the trained mouse, the film would be just another silly comedy.

Now, don't get me wrong, I do like movies. I love horror, fantasy, even drama, and action films. I love movies that get my adrenaline up, like Marvel comics remakes (think Batman, Ghost Rider, and Spiderman, even though this last one was a little kiddish) with any kind of supernatural element in it. Comedy? Give me Men in Black. Those keep me on the edge of my seat.

I don't like movies with the real-life elements-show me something that's magical, fantastic, out there. Don't show me a distorted version of the real life like the romantic comedies provide. I live in the real world-I don't have to see a distorted version of it on the screen. Show me something to loose myself in and get entertained all at the same time.

Now, I can imagine what you must be thinking. Probably something along the lines of, so she hates love stories and comedies. She also probably wears black, went though serious emotional/physical abuse, her parents are weirdos, or she plays D&D with creepy characters in the basement every night.

None of the above.

I am a slim, regular, fashion-conscious gal. I simply just hate comedies, which scored me brownie points with the boys I dated as a teen. They were always dreading what I'd want to be watching on TV on Valentines' Day, and prepared themselves emotionally for endless hours of teary-eyed movies on my parents' couch in the living room. They were usually pleasantly surprised when I whipped out a horror or a fantasy DVD instead (hint, hint, girls, it really works!).

So happy freaking Valentines' Day! Watch a horror instead of that romantic crap.
