Caroline Blaha-Black Nine to Five Rat Race
It's crazy how fast the work week goes by, and I always wonder if there's any point to the weekends at all. I always start looking forward to the weekend around Thursday and Friday, since those are the last two days of the week,
Caroline Blaha-Black A Poem
Caroline Blaha-Black Friday the 13th Blues
I am not a person who normally gives into superstitions. If a black cat crosses my path, I don't freak out like some people tend to. Cats, to me, were always lucky, and if one happens to cross my way, the better for me.
Caroline Blaha-Black Mr. Domestic Bliss
I have never been that kind of a girl to do things around the house, as housework seemed rather a dirty word to me. Ever since I was little, my family stressed to me the importance of school and education.
Caroline Blaha-Black Celeb Gripe II
Here I go, stepping on my soapbox and bitching about celebrities again. Why? I guess I just don't like others, especially not celebrities, telling me how to act and what to wear.
Caroline Blaha-Black I love to hate you
I have a love-hate relationship with book signings and book festivals. Writers and authors will probably know exactly what I'm talking about.
Caroline Blaha-Black For the Love of Books
I can't imagine my life without books. I love reading them, writing them, and even editing them.
Caroline Blaha-Black Stupid Movies and Valentine's Day
I always have and always will hate romantic comedies and love stories. Not only do I not find anything funny or romantic about these movies, I think that most of them are a complete crapola and a total waste of time. Unfortunately, a lot of people expect me to watch these kinds of movies with them on Valentine's Day, which I despise.
Caroline Blaha-Black Stuff, Stuff, and More Stuff This week I wanna get on my soapbox again and talk about the wastefulness of this society. In the USA especially, people waste more stuff and materials than anywhere else in the world.
Caroline Blaha-Black How I Loathe the Holidays Hundreds of books have been written on the subject of holidays, and it's not always about the bright and cheer that we're all supposed to be experiencing. Sometimes the Christmas season can be a pain in the ass, so to speak.
Caroline Blaha-Black Issues with Water So, the average person is supposed to drink eight glasses of water per day, right? Thats all nice and fine, unless, of course, youre me. I try to be healthy, eat right, exercise, and drink plenty of water. I can do the first three items on the list just fine. With water, however, I have some issues.
Caroline Blaha-Black Enslaved by Cell Phones Electronics. We're all hooked on them, if I can be so bold to say. We all have our computers, our MP3 players, and yes, our cellular phones. How could someone in today's modern society exist without one of those sleek, brushed-metal talking gadgets? Well, you can be without one maybe if you're Amish, or live in cave, right?
Caroline Blaha-Black Problem with Hair When I was young I had beautiful Barbie-like blond hair. There was no question in mine or anybody elses mind that my hair was truly blonde, and everyone including me was okay with it. But my eastern-European genes didnt want to be denied so easily.
Caroline Blaha-Black Right to Bitch This week I just want to bitch and bitch about the things that bother me. This week I don't feel like writing about anything nice or meaningful. I just feel like bitching, 'cause if you can't bitch, what's life for?
Caroline
Blaha-Black You
You'd
be surprised just how many people actually DO
have a problem with this statement. Why? I guess
some people just cannot get it through their thick
skulls that somebody exists who doesn't want to
add to an ever-growing population on Earth.

Blaha-Black Birth-Place It feels
good to return to the place in which you were
born once in a while, if it's in 10 miles away
or across the ocean. You don't even have to call
that place home because after all, home is where
the heart is, right? There's just something magical
about the place that you were born at.

think that they didn't? They sure did. An average
student spends 4-5 years in college, working away
at their degree, getting loans, scholarships,
and getting their parents to pay for some part
of it, too. They get cracking at the local restaurants
waiting tables, so that they can have some spending
money and have some fun while at school.

Blaha-Black Writing Scams Writing
scams are plentiful these days. It seems that
every time the economy gets stagnant or slow,
scammers figure out new ways to prey upon us,
writers. Let me illustrate.

Love of Used Bookstores Oh,
for the love of used books. I just love the smell
of used books when I walk into a used bookstore.
Theres just something awesome about all
those shelves with chipped-off paint, books with
love messages written inside the cover, magazines
that sport dog ears and tears, and I even like
the notes in bad taste that are scribbled on the
wall of the bookstores bathroom

Standardized or Die If
theres anything that Id like to bytch about
this week, its the ritual of standardized testing
that takes place every time one tries to enter any US
school. I wanna know, since when does scoring well on
such a test show that youre good enough for college?
No, it doesnt.

Blaha-Black Slaves
of Time Certain
old folktales and fairy tales from various cultures used
to (and probably still do) view time as a withered old man
with a white cascade of beard down to his knees. It was
always a "he", and he'd always give sound advice to those
few worthy people when they asked for it or needed it. That
is a pretty cool image of Father Time, isn't it?
Caroline
Blaha-Black Scared
of the Hahas Let's
talk about fear. If you're like me, you're scared of math
tests, sharp piercing-your-arm-for-no-good-reason objects
like needles, and the irrational fear of rubber bands. In
case you're wondering about this one, why, you don't know
when one of these little devils will put your eye out. But
the thing that really sends some serious shiver down my
spine, is the very thing that's supposed to make people
laugh, a clown.

Blaha-Black Birthday
Blues
When I was in my teens, I loved birthdays. I think that
most people of that age do. When youre young, parents
pamper you, you have birthday parties with your best friends
(and those that you decide to invite), cake, presents, you
name it. Even in your teens your birthday is a likeable
thing, where you tend to get away from the family nest,
go party with friends, and do what you like. Sounds right,
doesnt it?

of the sayings of old really ring true. Here's one I like,
"If you wake up in the morning and nothing hurts you, chances
are you're probably dead." This one applies to me on several
fronts. I'm 27 years old, and there's more stuff wrong with
my muscles than you can shake a stick at.

Blaha-Black Shake in your Boots, Emeril! We
often hear stories of women, who are a wonder in the kitchen.
We probably all know somebody's grandmother, who makes wonderful
fried pies, or a mother who makes the best brownies in town,
or a sister whose pasta primavera is to die for. I'm proud
to say that I have a man in my life, who can put all these
women in his pocket, and can even compete with Emeril himself.

Caroline Blaha-Black We see them on TV commercials and
in movies every day. Tall, beautiful models, with their
clothes, makeup and hair perfectly matched. Their long legs,
little behinds and not the least amount of cellulite anywhere
on their body would make any woman feel jealous.
