Nicole Kidman

While the world continues its unholy obsession with TomKat and their offspring, one woman has managed to keep her dignity intact: Nicole Kidman. While Tom bounced on couches and proved himself to be the King of Morons by getting into idiotic arguments with Brooke Shields, Nicole Kidman showed the world that she was no longer part of the circus by keeping a low profile and leading a somewhat normal life.

I have always respected Nicole Kidman as an actress, and, aside from the horrendous movies she made with The Couch Bouncer, have always thought that she was extremely brave in her choices. I have always thought that her marriage to Tom Cruise completely overshadowed her work; I don’t think she was taken seriously as an actress until she was freed from it. When the idiot let her go she faced the world with a steel backbone and carried herself with such dignity that Hollywood was forced to take her seriously. When she received the Oscar for ‘The Hours’ the entire world saw just how hard she had worked to prove herself not only as an actress but as a mother; she let the world see a little glimmer of vulnerability and that made me admire her even more.

Throughout the hysteria that her ex-husband has created with his new wife she has managed to keep a low-key relationship going with Keith Urban; you won’t see her pushing him on Oprah anytime soon! You also won’t see her dragging her kids around the world to promote her newest blockbuster or spouting nonsense about how other people should treat their illnesses. You won’t see her forcing people to believe in her religion nor will you see her pretending to have all the answers to the world’s problems, she leaves those things to the man with the Messiah complex.

Nicole Kidman is that rare breed of actress who leaves the spotlight where it belongs: on stage. She does not live her private life in front of the camera; she shields her children from it as much as possible and for that she is now being lambasted in the media for not being more ‘involved’ in their lives. Answer me this: isn’t it the job of a mother to keep her children safe? Isn’t it the job of a mother to protect her children’s privacy and bring them up in as stable an environment as possible? Which would you rather have, a mother who does those things or a father that bounces on couches?

In my mind there’s no contest.
