THE WORLD ACCORDING TO RALPH

Heaven help anyone in Alberta who ever decides to come out of the closet because according to Premier Ralph Klein they are going straight to hell in a hand basket. Now Premier Klein has never been a supporter of Gay Rights but he has really outdone himself this time. Thirteen years ago he was quoted as saying that gays had no rights and that they ‘should all be out on an island somewhere.’ (And this was while he was still Mayor of Calgary…Alberta’s version of San Francisco.) Up until that moment I was a devout Calgarian and proud Albertan, but that comment was the deciding factor in my defecting down east, and believe me it really is considered a defection. King Ralph and his cronies hate the freethinking east, and anyone who leaves Alberta for a life beyond the iron curtain is treated like a traitor. So here we are thirteen years later and King Ralph is Supreme Ruler of Alberta…Gays and Lesbians beware! King Ralph, God’s Chosen One in Alberta, has made it his personal Crusade that you shall never have the right to get married.

"It is a sad day for the majority of Albertans." He was quoted as saying when the House of Commons passed Bill C-38 this last week, making Canada the fourth country in the world to legalize gay and lesbian marriage. "It is unfortunate that such a law would be passed." Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this man is actually in charge of running a province. The lives and dreams of millions of people have been put in the hands of a man who should never be allowed to operate heavy machinery let alone run a provincial government! It is because of politicians like him that Canada was recently given the title Dumbest Government in the World. It is backward and bigoted thinking like this that hurts us as a nation; no matter what progressive steps we take, like passing this bill, we are always seen as slow to take action, slow to get involved on the world stage. Well, with the passing of Bill C-38 we are now front and center and King Ralph doesn’t like it one bit and this former subject is prepared to fight him in any way that I can.

Here’s what Ralphie and his supporters have failed to understand: Gays and Lesbians are not asking to be treated any differently than heterosexual couples, they are asking for recognition in the eyes of the law… not God. And God resides in the hearts of the people pledging their lives to each other, not in the mind of one man. What right does this man have to decide who can or can’t get married? Who does he think he is to deny thousands of people the right to legally spend the rest of their lives together? The passing of this bill, in very simple terms, gives men and women the right to publicly acknowledge their spouses and that scares the hell out of Premier Klein.

A sad day for Albertans? For one Albertan maybe. But then he was already sad to begin with.

First I would like to say that I am proud to be from Alberta. As for Ralph's comments, I somewhat have to agree. Now before you string me up the nearest tree, you must understand that I have no problem with gays and lesbians marrying, but instead of it being called marriage - why not call it a civil union???? If all they are asking for is recognition is the eyes of the law, then really what is the difference???

As for Anna, perhaps Alberta soil underneath her English feet is really what she needs... Perhaps she has been living in Toronto for too long and her mind is being polluted by all the smog and Alberta bashing!!!! Just remember where all the 90% of transfer payments come from folks. If the rest of Canada thinks this way, then perhaps it is time for Alberta to look into leaving Canada - we can start are our own little republic!!
